technology as the extension of vision

Meeting Minutes

Meeting minutes: 30.09.08

+ The Enthnographic studies data needs to be split into Male, Female, number of people doing what etc so we can use it as a piece of evidence in favour of our product.
+ The logo/product name needs to be finalised. Options/ideas so far: Beta, Beta Wave, any others????
+ Identity colours – gray, blue and bright, lime green (reference amy’s copic markers)
+ Writing Proposal – word doc version only due 7th October. Designed Doc due in 4 weeks time at end of semester. The word doc can also include any graphs that backup research methods conducted and any sketches/diagrams done so far for paper prototyping.

Things to be written this week:
Steph: Timeline (for ethnographic studies) and timeline for proposal.
Amy: Methodologies – all graphs, charts and main data collected from online survey to be written up.
Danielle: Audience and their ‘Mediation’. Look into how students are being mediated before they get to university and therefore our product will assist them.

Meeting minutes: 25.09.08

+ Amy to talk with Brent (IT geek) about technologies to be included in product X and what technologies could be employed to converge them.
+ Online Survey (Method One) closes tomorrow, Amy to collect results, analyse.
+ Visualisations/Ethnographic studies notes taken from lecture to be collated. Need to find a way to transform note-takings into readable data to be used as evidence in proposal document.
+ Writing Proposal – word doc version only due 7th October. Designed Doc due in 4 weeks time at end of semester.

Things to be written this week:
Steph: Introduction and Abstract
Amy: Methodologies – summaries of each done and results
Danielle: Objectives/Design Considerations/Audience

Design:
Font: Interstate
Body copy: Light, title case
Headings: Bold, caps
Colour: Predominantly black and white, with tones of grey and the use of bright, lime green (like marker colour Amy bought) and a bright blue.

Can also incorporate CMYK where possible and the use of overprinting could be quite effective.

Images – to be sourced by all:
People sitting in lecture theatre.
Close up of iris’s and eyes
Images which play on Depth of Field.
Graphs – pie charts, split up images (reference AGDA magazine/newspaper latte)

Blog:
Online survey results – post.
Post minutes.
Talk about our ideas for paper prototyping.
Upload lit review and any reference images used throughout it.
MEETING: 10.09.08
AMY: i love mornings with you
STEPH: Steph
DAN: Danielle O’Shea

i love mornings with you… says: (8:37:20 PM)i found a camera on glasses that records peoples experiences and helps them remember things at 50% more!

steph says: (8:37:29 PM)wow really?

steph says: (8:37:33 PM)

how does that work?!

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:37:37 PM)

cool that awesome

steph says: (8:37:40 PM)

i want some

i love mornings with you… says: (8:38:09 PM)

it flashes information at your brain through these computer screen glasses but it does it at a speed so that you dont actually know its happening (ie: you cant see the info in front of your eyes) but your brain can pick it up

i love mornings with you… says: (8:38:12 PM)

me to!

steph says: (8:38:42 PM)

far OUT

steph says: (8:38:45 PM)

that’s amazing

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:38:53 PM)

wow thats cool! perhaps we can converge that with something to make it even better

i love mornings with you… says: (8:39:21 PM)

yer thats what i was thinking!

i love mornings with you… says: (8:39:49 PM)

They’re called…wait for it…….MEMORY GLASSES

steph says: (8:39:54 PM)

bahahahaha

steph says: (8:39:57 PM)

how original…

steph says: (8:40:05 PM)

have you got a website for this?

i love mornings with you… says: (8:40:43 PM)

they were developed back in 2003! and they were done by some scientists from the Massachusetts university of technology or something

i love mornings with you… says: (8:40:49 PM)

ummm yer, hang on

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:41:25 PM)

cool I checked out that blog that you emailed us about, pretty funny that they were going in the same direction!

i love mornings with you… says: (8:41:54 PM)

http://www.theindychannel.com/technology/2580527/detail.html

i love mornings with you… says: (8:42:05 PM)

let me know if that works – its just an article on them

i love mornings with you… says: (8:42:22 PM)

its from 2003 and they said they werent on the market back then but they might be by now

steph says: (8:42:35 PM)

yeh cool

i love mornings with you… says: (8:42:40 PM)

they’re manufactured by a company called MicroOptical

steph says: (8:43:32 PM)

that’s seriously amazing

steph says: (8:43:39 PM)

how the hell do people come up with this shit?

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:44:09 PM)

yeah its insane

i love mornings with you… says: (8:44:15 PM)

i have no idea but our plan should be to find it and make it RAD

steph says: (8:44:35 PM)

i reckon!

i love mornings with you… says: (8:45:23 PM)

so i figure we can maybe do something with this – take it further. This idea of something simple, like glasses, which have been around for years and combine it with this technology that records stuff as its happening and then flashes it to your brain at 180th of a second so you ahve no idea its happening but its assisting your brain

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:46:50 PM)

thats cool because we were initially heading down the path of assisting long term memory but this is more the short term sensory memory… I like it

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:47:06 PM)

it will keep the demographic away from older people as well

steph says: (8:47:34 PM)

yeh definately

steph says: (8:47:35 PM)

very cool

steph says: (8:47:44 PM)

so how can we take it further?

steph says: (8:47:47 PM)

thats what we need to decide

i love mornings with you… says: (8:47:48 PM)

which is better design wise

steph says: (8:47:55 PM)

obviously we the design

i love mornings with you… says: (8:48:28 PM)

well yer like imagine if it was marketed towards students, who could sit in a lecture and record the info and then its 50% more likely to stick in your brain cause its being all flashy rad

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:48:32 PM)

I reckon we need to better the function somehow as well

steph says: (8:48:49 PM)

OH my god that so true!

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:48:56 PM)

yeah I think that we puch it for educational purposes

i love mornings with you… says: (8:49:00 PM)

yer, well we need to continue looking into other technologies that could assist our target market, donverge

i love mornings with you… says: (8:49:04 PM)

converge

steph says: (8:49:05 PM)

yes

steph says: (8:49:08 PM)

convergence all the way

i love mornings with you… says: (8:49:13 PM)

steph stop being a black hat

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:49:21 PM)

haha

steph says: (8:49:33 PM)

sorry. im a permanent black hat at the moment. give me a break.

steph says: (8:49:47 PM)

ok something to do with the wii headset idea perhaps?

i love mornings with you… says: (8:50:21 PM)

if it was our idea it would of been based on technology that didnt exist – and we dont ahve the skills to develop it. As keith said, its moreso about discovering existing technologies and changing/converging/designing them for another need/issue/desire etc

steph says: (8:51:05 PM)

yeh true

steph says: (8:51:08 PM)

i like it

i love mornings with you… says: (8:51:09 PM)

so we’ve found quite a few cool technologies like the brainwave headset and these rad computer screen glasses. Maybe it could look something like this

steph says: (8:51:13 PM)

i think its got legs

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:51:35 PM)

yeah definately I reckon too

i love mornings with you… says: (8:52:03 PM)

meanwhile, whats the mac equivalent to paint???

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:52:29 PM)

I have just done a quick google on “memory glasses” and a few different article come up

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:52:35 PM)

hmmm no idea about that one

steph says: (8:52:41 PM)

the mac equivalen to paint? lol

steph says: (8:52:46 PM)

photoshop

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:54:29 PM)

just looking at the words on the brief, can we somehow make it more interactive, able to multitask, entertaining, community enhancing, creative???

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:54:48 PM)

… just trying to provoke something… but not really working for me

steph says: (8:56:02 PM)

i think we stay away from the entertainment thing

i love mornings with you… says: (8:56:03 PM)

accept my amazing sketch

steph says: (8:56:13 PM)

hahaahaha

i love mornings with you… says: (8:56:19 PM)

yer no i dont really want to do the entertainment thing either

i love mornings with you… says: (8:56:23 PM)

i’m thinking education

i love mornings with you… says: (8:57:07 PM)

dan! accept my sketch i sent you

i love mornings with you… says: (8:57:12 PM)

its amazing

steph says: (8:57:14 PM)

yeh education def.

steph says: (8:57:28 PM)

bahahaha

steph says: (8:57:39 PM)

amy your sketch its priceless

i love mornings with you… says: (8:58:06 PM)

we should present it to jo and blag

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:58:19 PM)

haha who need renderings

i love mornings with you… says: (8:58:33 PM)

renderings are for losers, mine is pure thought

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:58:36 PM)

maybe we can take it into the contact lenses like the camera?

Danielle O’Shea says: (8:58:56 PM)

defiantley it has so much more character

steph says: (8:59:00 PM)

BAHAHAHAHA joe and blaG?

steph says: (8:59:30 PM)

oooh yes i like the contact lens idea!

i love mornings with you… says: (9:00:29 PM)

blag was interntional

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:00:47 PM)

haha good one

i love mornings with you… says: (9:01:10 PM)

yer the contact lense that uses bluetooth wireless technology to hook up to the brainwave headset…….wait why do we need the headset again?

i love mornings with you… says: (9:01:15 PM)

any use for it?

steph says: (9:01:26 PM)

i know it was intentional!! hahaha thats why i laughed so much

steph says: (9:01:36 PM)

we dont need the headset…?!

steph says: (9:01:44 PM)

you drew the headset!

steph says: (9:01:46 PM)

lol

i love mornings with you… says: (9:01:48 PM)

maybe it could store the information the contact lense records and then you can go home and brainwave the info and control the computer with your thoughts

steph says: (9:02:08 PM)

yes… back to the pensive idea…

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:02:26 PM)

hey bluetooth for sharing the cues… image sharing you thoughts without talking them

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:02:59 PM)

don’t really know how it would work

i love mornings with you… says: (9:03:33 PM)

bluetooth can do amazing things.

steph says: (9:03:44 PM)

i reckon we should watch a few james bond movies. theyv got amazing technology in them… the gadgets they have

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:04:22 PM)

Our movie sessions could go for days… the notebook, harry potter, james bond

i love mornings with you… says: (9:04:24 PM)

also dell is currently developing wireless self – effeciant technology that they want to charge theyre lap tops…meaning no batteries required – its very environmentally sound. we could just say that the technology is there and incorporate it

steph says: (9:04:51 PM)

wow yeh!

i love mornings with you… says: (9:04:55 PM)

james bond is actually a good one – and get smart. they ahd all these amazing ideas but it was a joke cause the technology wasnt there but now it is

steph says: (9:04:56 PM)

howd u find all this stuff?

i love mornings with you… says: (9:05:09 PM)

i’m amazing…..i thought i told you guys this?

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:05:33 PM)

yeah I like that idea… just thinking more about the headset… how does the contact camera work is it just he lense or does it connect with something?

steph says: (9:05:35 PM)

we know you’re amazing amy

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:05:53 PM)

we should have just known I guess

i love mornings with you… says: (9:06:36 PM)

it uses a microchip receiver thats placed within two layers of silicon, one convex and one concave

steph says: (9:07:04 PM)

ooooooh

i love mornings with you… says: (9:07:58 PM)

yer!

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:08:01 PM)

I reckon there would need to be some sort of micro chip device/mini computer that store the memory cues

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:08:11 PM)

to go witht eh contact lens

i love mornings with you… says: (9:08:37 PM)

so if we could combine this receiver with bluetooth/that new sustainable wireless dell thing we could gt the info thats being recorded by the contact lens camera and send it to our computer

i love mornings with you… says: (9:08:42 PM)

ot something

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:10:52 PM)

yeah so basically what it would do is analyse something that you are seeing, read your brainwaves and pick out key things that you are linking the memory of it with (a word or a colour) and be able to replay it, thus enlarging your short term memory????

steph says: (9:11:30 PM)

it all sounds incredibly complicated

steph says: (9:11:35 PM)

but good all the same

i love mornings with you… says: (9:12:01 PM)

precisely

i love mornings with you… says: (9:12:06 PM)

it soudns rad cause it is

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:12:27 PM)

It would need to have some sort of filter that could sort out the info that you don’t need to remember and assist you in storing the important information in your long term memory

i love mornings with you… says: (9:13:21 PM)

yer well that phone app that that other student developed (the one with the blog i sent) that used technology that he has developed himself that does that exactly – filters out the parts that will be used as cues!

steph says: (9:13:25 PM)

i think a filter may be getting too complicated…

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:13:50 PM)

perhaps it could somehow work out when there are low amount of brain activity and then replay the important cues during that time so that you are more likely to remember it

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:13:58 PM)

haha

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:14:08 PM)

defiantley converge all we can I say

i love mornings with you… says: (9:14:24 PM)

no we cant do that but we can always talk to him about his idea and learn from it, improve on it and make it radder and more applicable to our own device

i love mornings with you… says: (9:14:42 PM)

he’s another student i’m sure he’d be willing to help if we emailed him or something

i love mornings with you… says: (9:14:58 PM)

yer i like that idea danielly

steph says: (9:15:15 PM)

isnt he developing it as a product already?

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:15:29 PM)

yeah good point Im sure that he would be really excited that someone is inerested in his idea and happy to tell us all he can

i love mornings with you… says: (9:16:33 PM)

yer hes developed the filtering tehn ology – not sure how good it is, but you can get it off his site i think – hang on i’ll ahve a look now

i love mornings with you… says: (9:17:51 PM)

http://www.reqall.com/               this is it!looks like he must of gotten sponsorship from someone.

steph says: (9:18:46 PM)

wow

steph says: (9:18:48 PM)

impressive!

i love mornings with you… says: (9:19:12 PM)

Sudden inspiration, personal planning, long-term memory challenges—put it all into reQall.

* Have an idea while on the road? Call, say it, and your words will be translated to text.
* In a meeting? Use the iPhone or web to quickly enter your action items.
* Found a great web article on scuba diving vacations? Clip and remember it with reQall on Firefox.
* Got a great idea for a bi

i love mornings with you… says: (9:19:44 PM)

its not a filter though which is what he was originally talking about on his blog, its basically just an organiser that can send you reminders etc.

i love mornings with you… says: (9:19:59 PM)

its got its own iphone application which is pretty massive

i love mornings with you… says: (9:20:46 PM)

reQall Memory Jogger TM nudges your brain to remember better.

reQall’s patent-pending Memory Jogger works in the background to exercise your brain and keep your memory fit. The Memory Jogger looks at all the items on your list, including those that don’t have due dates, and decides what to jog you with. These jogs look similar to the reminders you get for your To-Dos but their purpose is differen

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:20:49 PM)

yeah making it useable with other technologies is a good idea

i love mornings with you… says: (9:20:59 PM)

Every time you are nudged with one of your items you’ll find it easier to remember. Get your mind jogged often enough and you’ll find it hard to forget.

Here’s how the reQall Memory Jogger has helped users.

* Lots of the things I need to do don’t have a specific due date. The reQall Memory Jogger keeps them fresh in my mind.
* Sounds funny, but I call them “Stop and smell the roses” jog

i love mornings with you… says: (9:21:30 PM)

did you see the Memory Jogger?

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:21:40 PM)

Good thing I found when researching about memory… if you don’t use it you’ll lose it

steph says: (9:22:42 PM)

i like the requall logo

steph says: (9:22:45 PM)

the name is shit

i love mornings with you… says: (9:24:05 PM)

i dont – its very web

i love mornings with you… says: (9:24:33 PM)

looks like everyother web logo, like skype etc, glass effect curved edges

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:24:52 PM)

so ours will be kind of similar only you wont have to record it through voice the contact lens will record it through vision and memory

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:25:17 PM)

so true very web and iphone look

steph says: (9:27:27 PM)

another iphone fact… the reaosn all the iphone logos look the same, rendered, glass effect… when you design a logo, you upload it and it automatically converts it to that style, from like the vector logo… so its a whole branding thing.

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:28:03 PM)

haha really thats interesting

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:28:12 PM)

they are branding the brands

i love mornings with you… says: (9:28:49 PM)

yer apple: the worlds most innovative company 3 years in a row

i love mornings with you… says: (9:29:22 PM)

5 years ago if you saw someone with an ipod they’d be listening to music….now, they could be doing absolutely anything other than going to the toilet

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:31:03 PM)

maybe thats an interesting convergence for jo and blaz convergence of the ipod and bodily excrietments

steph says: (9:31:34 PM)

haha!

steph says: (9:31:36 PM)

ok

i love mornings with you… says: (9:31:37 PM)

hahahahahhahahahahhahahha

steph says: (9:31:37 PM)

seriously

steph says: (9:31:40 PM)

enough about joe

i love mornings with you… says: (9:31:42 PM)

time your farts to the beat

i love mornings with you… says: (9:32:08 PM)

anyway back onto our idea

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:32:18 PM)

yeah we got a little of track

i love mornings with you… says: (9:32:53 PM)

well i think maybe we could look into short term memory cues – what are the most effective etc, i’ll keep looking into the contact lens camera and the dell wireless technology

steph says: (9:33:42 PM)

yeh

steph says: (9:33:47 PM)

amy do you have your psych book?

steph says: (9:33:52 PM)

perhaps dig that out

steph says: (9:34:01 PM)

otherwise we can go to the library of course

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:34:36 PM)

Looked a little bit into cues generally it is a connection between colour, words, smells, images, structures, sounds, tastes, touch, emotion, language, that a person makes

i love mornings with you… says: (9:34:42 PM)

nah i dont have the text book but i’ve got all my folders and notes and stuff

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:35:05 PM)

I reckon the key ones for us will be colours, words, images

i love mornings with you… says: (9:35:20 PM)

well we cant do much about smells and tastes or touch (or could we?)

i love mornings with you… says: (9:35:33 PM)

colour, words, images, sounds

i love mornings with you… says: (9:36:20 PM)

we cold also say the technology could as you say monitor the persons concentration levels and therefore blood pressure, temperature, heart rate etc which would all be linked to their emotional state

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:36:55 PM)

definately good one

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:37:16 PM)

people are more likley to remeber things that they have an emotional connection with

steph says: (9:39:03 PM)

i need to do some more reading to get my head around this more

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:39:36 PM)

I guess from here we need to try and get a good understanding of how all these things function and how we can push them to do new things… thesky is the limit

i love mornings with you… says: (9:42:06 PM)

yer we need to make sure we know exactly whats available so we can then propose this idea and have the backup….maybe we should look into target markets and stuff too

i love mornings with you… says: (9:42:09 PM)

so students?

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:43:00 PM)

yeah I think it would be of most interest to senior students and university students

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:43:14 PM)

but could be generally people in the workforce as weel

Danielle O’Shea says: (9:43:40 PM)

people wanting to remember more things from meetings and converstations

i love mornings with you… says: (9:43:49 PM)

remember, in 5 years time every sngle student will most likely ahve a laptop that they just hook into at class so theyre all connected so if we could bluetooth the info from the recording device somehow it could be instantaneously converted onto the computer and real text etc

i love mornings with you… says: (9:43:57 PM)

yer yer corporate too

i love mornings with you… says: (9:44:06 PM)

thats a big market

i love mornings with you… says: (9:44:14 PM)

we’d need primary and secondary

i love mornings with you… says: (9:48:14 PM)

ok  guys – good sesh!
